4 Schools That Should Chase Alabama 5-Star Transfer Antonio Alfano After He Entered the Portal

Former top recruit and 5-star Alabama commit Antonio Alfano has been nothing but a headache for Nick Saban since his arrival in Tuscaloosa. Saban's comments from just a few months ago suggest Alfano had no intention wear Crimson and White, and his premonition proved correct. The New Jersey native has officially entered the transfer portal, giving several programs the chance to add a blue chip DL to their 2020 recruiting class.

There's no telling what kind of transfer restrictions Saban will place on Alfano, especially after the coach went on the record stating he quit on the program. Georgia was one of the finalists for Alfano in the first place, and they'd likely be interested again if he's allowed to transfer in-conference. This one feels like a longshot, however.

3. Rutgers

Okay, I know, this one seems a bit farfetched. Yet, the Scarlet Knights were the first program to make an offer Alfano in the first place, when he was in eighth grade! RU has to start the turnaround at some point, and if they can add a solid head coach -- hint: bring back Greg Schiano --then perhaps they can land a homegrown talent like Alfano for once.

2. Penn State

The Nittany Lions were a finalist for Alfano's services the first time around, and just barely missed out to Saban and the Crimson Tide. James Franklin is notorious for his recruiting ability, especially with top East Coast prospects. Expect the Nittany Lions to place a call, at the very least.

Ryan Day and the Buckeyes were high on Alfano in his initial recruitment, and it's easy to see why. With a history of producing some of the best DE prospects in the country -- see the Bosas and Chase Young -- Alfano would have the opportunity to see his NFL dreams realized with a fresh slate. It makes a lot of sense, even without Schiano, who helped recruit Alfano the first time around thanks to his Jersey roots.
