4 Players Who Will Likely be Dealt by the Blue Jays Before the MLB Trade Deadline

The Toronto Blue Jays have certainly fallen on hard times after back-to-back American League Championship Series appearances in 2015 and 2016. At 38-53 and in the middle of the rebuild, here are a few Blue Jays who might be flying south by the trade deadline.

1. Justin Smoak

Smoak’s production has dropped since his 2017 All-Star season, but he has remained a steady on-base guy over the last two seasons. He will be a free agent at the end of the season and even though Smoak’s slugging percentage has decreased since 2017, he still makes excellent contact with the ball and would make for an excellent bench bat.

2. Eric Sogard

Sogard is one of the better stories of the Blue Jays season. He currently has career highs with 9 home runs and a .478 slugging percentage, while only receiving $800,000 this season. Sogard is unlikely to be a hero for any team but plays multiple positions and will be a reliable utility man for any contender as a half-season rental.

3. Ken Giles

After a very disappointing 2018 season, which included punching himself in the face, 100 Miles Giles has returned to his dominant form. He has even out-pitched Roberto Osuna, who replaced him as the Astros’ closer. Giles has 13 saves and whether it is in the eighth or ninth frame, power arms shine in October.

4. Marcus Stroman

This is the most unlikely of the four but I’d still give it a 25% chance of it happening. Stroman still has another season until free agency, but is pitching like an ace again. He was an All-Star for the first time and has a 3.18 ERA, good for ninth in the AL. Stroman is one of those players who
prides himself on dominating October and his confidence would play well on any team looking to make a deep postseason run.
