3 Teams That Should Call the Phillies About Jean Segura Trade

With rumors that the Philadelphia Phillies are keeping an eye on shortstop Didi Gregorius, Jean Segura's future with the team is shrouded in doubt. There's a strong possibility that he'll be traded at some point this offseason if the team manages to reach a deal with manager Joe Girardi's former shortstop in Gregorius.

If that's the case, these three teams in need of some help at shortstop should seriously consider giving the Phillies a call about a possible deal.

3. Milwaukee Brewers

Shortstop has been one of the few glaring holes for the Brewers over the last few years. In 2019 alone, Milwaukee's shortstops ranked dead last in fWAR, producing an abysmal -0.8 mark. Segura would be the perfect remedy for that situation. Even if he played around his mediocre .743 OPS from last year, a reunion between the two be a massive improvement for a team looking to get over the hump in 2020.

2. Cincinnati Reds

Jose Iglesias is no longer an option for the Reds, but Segura would be the perfect replacement. He can fill the role of a solid hitting shortstop and bring a bit of pop that Iglesias never could. And of course, the Reds have more than enough prospects to swing a deal for him. 2020 looks to be yet another opportunity for them to get back to their winning ways, and a trade could be just what they need to finally return to relevance after so many years of losing.

Brandon Crawford may still have shortstop locked down, but that doesn't mean they can't swing a deal for Segura and stick him at second base. Segura played second base coming up through the minors, so it's there wouldn't be much of a learning curve. Additionally, for a team lacking power in all areas, his .420 slugging percentage is incredibly appealing. At his worst, Segura is far better than anything else that the Giants have to offer in that infield.
