3 Teams That Got Screwed by Redskins' Decision to Franchise Tag Brandon Scherff

Many teams across the league are looking to bolster the offensive line this offseason, and it was anticipated that Brandon Scherff would be one of the most sought after targets on the open market. Well, the Redskins poured water on those rumors Saturday when it was revealed the team was bringing him back via the non-exclusive franchise tag.

These three teams were expecting to be in play for Scherff's services, but the fact that he will be remaining in D.C. throws a big wrench into their plans.

3. Houston Texans

The Texans' offensive line was feeble in 2019 and if the team wants to truly contend this season they'll need to address the trenches. Allowing Deshaun Watson to get sacked so many times is simply not an option going forward, and Scherff seemed like he could present a potential solution in Houston. Unfortunately, Bill O'Brien will need to seek protection for his star player elsewhere after the Redskins' decision on Scherff.

2. Baltimore Ravens

The Ravens have a significant hole to fill on the offensive line following the retirement of future Hall of Famer Marshal Yanda. While no one can realistically replace the production of Yanda, Scherff was anticipated to be one of the premier offensive linemen in this year's free agency. The Redskins' decision to keep the 28-year-old in town could have a significant impact on Baltimore's free agency plans.

1. Cleveland Browns

The Browns have the star power to contend, now they just need to acquire more talent to do the dirty work. Scherff would have been an ideal fit in Cleveland, able to come aboard and offer top-tier protection for Baker Mayfield while also benefitting Nick Chubb. Unfortunately for Browns fans, there's one less elite offensive linemen to choose from now.
