Didi Gregorius is a fan favorite in the Bronx, but his time as a Yankee just might be up. Brian Cashman and Co. opted not to give Gregorius a qualifying offer on Monday, leaving fans to wonder exactly what's next for the 29-year-old. Despite the obvious emotions attached, here's why the move actually made complete sense.

3. Positional Depth

The Yankees are, ultimately, very deep in the middle of their infield. The likes of Gleyber Torres and DJ LeMahieu can play shortstop and second base, while injury woes (hopefully) won't force them to continuously switch positions in 2020.

2. Financial Smarts

Had the Yankees offered Didi, they'd potentially owe him upwards of $18 million. Instead, they have the option to pursue Gregorius in free agency at a better price, or sign someone they view as a better fit.

1. Gregorius' 2019 Struggles

Gregorius hit just .238 this season, and struggled to produce with runners in scoring position. Considering his previous heights, the Yankees must view Didi as a player on the downswing at this point. Perhaps it's just best if both sides part ways.
