3 QBs Raiders Could Draft Who Are Already More Promising Than Derek Carr

The Las Vegas Raiders were rumored to be pursuing Tom Brady this offseason before he ultimately signed in Tampa Bay. Derek Carr has been the starter since 2014 and is under contract through 2022. However, he is only a $2.5 million dead cap hit in 2021 and his eventual replacement could be drafted this year.

The Raiders have picks No. 12 and No. 19 overall in the first round and don't select again until the third, where the team owns three picks. That means the Raiders can target one of the top quarterbacks in the draft, or wait to take someone who may have slipped through the cracks. Three quarterbacks stand out as potential options for the Raiders.

3. James Morgan

James Morgan is an option for the Raiders in the third round. He began his career at BGSU and spent his final two seasons with FIU. Morgan stands at 6-4 and had 2,560 yards in 2019. He only threw five interceptions and had a 58 percent completion percentage last year. In 2018 he showed up to FIU and threw 26 touchdowns with only seven interceptions. Morgan is a rising prospect and was not surrounded by much talent in college. He can develop behind Carr and Marcus Mariota and is a low-risk option with one of the three third-round picks.

2. Jacob Eason

Jacob Eason stands 6-6 and had a great 2019 season with Washington after transferring from Georgia. He finished with 3,132 yards, 23 touchdowns, and only eight interceptions. Limited college experience makes him a perfect early-round selection. His size is intriguing and he also completed 64.2 percent of his passes in 2019. Giving him a year to adjust to the NFL after a 3,000-yard season in college could give Las Vegas a quarterback of the future.

1. Jordan Love

Jordan Love's stock has been rising nearly every day this offseason. He could go in the first round and the Raiders may be bold and use the No. 19 overall pick on the Utah State prospect. He stands 6-4 and eclipsed the 3,400-yard mark in two consecutive seasons. However, he did have 17 interceptions last year and may need time to learn. His ceiling is high and having two first-round picks allows the Raiders to take a chance on someone like Love before he falls to a playoff team late in the first round.
