3 Players That Definitely Won't Be on the Phillies Roster Next Season

Outside of the Boston Red Sox, the Philadelphia Phillies have been the most disappointing team in the game, as they haven't lived up to the lofty expectations that were placed on them after they spent a ton of money over the winter. Manager Gabe Kapler might be on the way out, but so are several players. They need a makeover, so here are three players that definitely won't be on the Phillies roster next season.

3. LHP Jason Vargas

Jason Vargas has a club option for 2020, and since he hasn't really improved as a member of the Phillies, posting a 5.12 ERA over 10 starts, they won't bring him back. He's a borderline back-end starter, and since Philadelphia needs much more than that, why spend the money on the 36-year-old to come back?

2. OF Odubel Herrera

When Odubel Herrera made an All-Star team in 2016, it looked like he was on the verge of becoming a true star in the National League. Well, he's been far from that, both on and off the field. Herrera has never had an OPS over .800 over his career, and you can bet he'll make at least one bone-headed mistake a week. Time to cut bait.

1. 3B Maikel Franco

Maikel Franco has legit power, but he was supposed to be much more than that. Well, Franco has never been a consistent hitter, good defender, and it's hard to play a .230 hitter on a daily basis, even though you can pencil in 20-25 home runs. He started off the season on fire, crushing home runs on the regular throughout April, but since receded to his true form. Time to move on from the supposed third baseman of the future.
