3 Free Agents the Warriors Should Target This Offseason

The Warriors are in an interesting predicament once the 2020 offseason hits. They can go ahead and draft their future franchise player in the lottery, or they can trade said pick for an established star to try to get another run at a championship in before the buzzer. While they may not have the cap space to get a max-contract free agent, the sign-and-trade method would be their best bet. Here is who they should target this summer.

3. Pistons PF/C Christian Wood

Before COVID-19 shut down the NBA season, one of the unsung heroes was Pistons forward Christian Wood. Wood was having a career year, as he averaged 13.1 points and 6.3 rebounds per game on 57% from the floor and 38% from range. Wood may not be the first name that jumps off the page of 2020 free agents, but there is a possible fit of playing him in the stretch-five position as a Mid-Level-Exception signing. Detroit certainly will want to retain Wood, however.

2. Clippers SF Marcus Morris

Since the departure of both Kevin Durant and Andre Iguodala last summer, the Warriors have been in dire need of a scorer and defender at the small forward spot. Golden State tried the Andrew Wiggins experiment, but it seems likely his stay in the Bay is only temporary (hello, Giannis?). With Morris, Golden State would be getting its 3-and-D player that can guard multiple positions, hit a spot up triple, and get a bucket whenever he needs to.

1. Thunder F Danilo Gallinari

Gallinari could be signed at a bargain this summer. In the midst of a stellar season with Oklahoma City, expect Gallo to be worth somewhere between the $20-$25 million price range, well below a max slot. If Golden State could create the right sign-and-trade package (most likely including Wiggins and picks), then it can have its third scorer to go along with the Splash Brothers in order to retool for one last championship run.
