3 Free Agents the Packers Should Avoid This Offseason

The Green Bay Packers didn't exactly cruise their way to a 13-3 record and a first-round bye in the postseason. In fact, the team was practically forced to adopt the "win ugly" mentality.

Therefore, it wasn't a big surprise that Matt LaFleur's first season in Wisconsin finished with a 37-20 beatdown at the hands of the San Francisco 49ers in the NFC Championship Game.

Green Bay was thoroughly out-classed by Niners, and the shellacking proved that the team has a myriad of roster deficiencies to address this offseason via free agency. However, signing these three players would be a mistake.

3. Robby Anderson

It goes without saying that the Packers need another receiver to pair alongside stud Davante Adams. Anderson simply shouldn't be that guy. He's the epitome of inconsistent, and that's exactly what Green Bay's receiving corps, outside of Adams obviously, struggles with. Anderson logged fewer than 33 receiving yards in NINE games with the Jets in 2019, all the while Jamison Crowder established himself as Sam Darnold's No. 1 target in his first season with the team. Anderson isn't the answer for Green Bay.

2. Andrew Whitworth

Depending on how Bryan Bulaga's impending free agency sorts itself out, the Packers could potentially be in the market for a starting offensive tackle. Enter Andrew Whitworth, who enjoyed an impressive run as one of the best OTs in the NFL. However, at 38 years old, the veteran is WELL past his prime. Whitworth is still a hot commodity, but his play doesn't back up his esteemed resume anymore, meaning he shouldn't be in Green Bay's plans this offseason.

1. Greg Olsen

With Green Bay set to likely release Jimmy Graham (the move would save them $8 million), the franchise will undoubtedly be browsing the tight end market this offseason. However, Greg Olsen should not be on their shopping list. Similarly to Whitworth, Olsen's best days are behind him, and his recent injury history is extremely concerning. With players like Hunter Henry, Eric Ebron, Jacob Hollister and Blake Jarwin -- none of whom are over 26 years old -- out there, the Pack shouldn't set their sights on Olsen. Let other teams bite on him.
