The Kansas City Chiefs will kick-off their 2019 preseason Saturday night against the Cincinnati Bengals. As is the case each year, Andy Reid's projected starters won't be expected to play more than a couple of series', let alone a full quarter.

With that in mind, let's take a look at three Chiefs players to keep an eye on in the Week 1 tune-up.

3. WR Mecole Hardman

Kansas City wouldn't select a wide receiver in the second round if they didn't plan to utilize him in the upcoming season. That's exactly the case with the Georgia product, who caught seven touchdown passes for the Bulldogs in 2018. Sure, Tyreek Hill avoided a suspension, but do you really trust Sammy Watkins to stay on the field all season? We sure don't. Keep a sharp eye on Hardman in this one.

2. RB Darwin Thompson

Folks, we implore you not to sleep on the 2019 sixth-rounder out of Utah State. We genuinely believe Thompson can push for significant reps and challenge the likes of Damien Williams and Carlos Hyde for the No.1 job. After all, the young tailback totaled 1,044 rushing yards and 14 touchdowns while hauling in 23 passes for 351 yards and and two additional scores. His elite ability to catch and run the ball is a PERFECT match for Andy Reid's coaching persona.

1. S Juan Thornhill

The rookie DB out of Virginia has impressed thus far in training camp. Reports suggest that he's been a ball magnet over the last two weeks, making several interceptions and locking down opposing receivers in both man coverage and as a deep safety. A positive showing in the preseason could force Reid's hand to give him reps once the regular season begins. As a starter for the Cavaliers in 2018 Thornhill allowed just three touchdowns compared to six interceptions, and held opponents to just a 43.8 passer rating.
