Mike McCarthy hasn't said much about free agent quarterback Dak Prescott ever since he took over the Dallas Cowboys head coaching job. But Wednesday, when asked about Prescott's future in Dallas, McCarty put to bed any speculation that Dak wasn't in town for the long haul. McCarthy confirmed at the 2020 NFL Combine that the 26 year old is the Cowboys' franchise quarterback, despite the latest update about his contract situation.

Prescott finished second in the NFL with 4,902 passing yards last season, and he set a new career high in touchdown passes with 30 under new offensive coordinator Kellen Moore. While McCarthy chose to remake the Dallas coaching staff, he opted to keep Moore in place as OC, perhaps due to his familiarity with Prescott.

There are only four starting quarterbacks in all of football who are currently being paid more than $30 million per season, and Prescott's camp is angling for the former fourth-round pick to become the fifth player to reach that plateau.

Prescott is in a weird situation right now. He has proven himself to be a franchise quarterback and wants to be paid like one, and his employer appears more than willing to do so. However, the two parties still don't appear to be totally on the same page. Hopefully McCarthy's vote of confidence changes that and helps the Cowboys finally get Dak and his agent down at the negotiation table.
