Damien Williams went from the Adam Gase scrap heap to the Super Bowl in just a few years, as he topped 100 yards in Super Bowl LIV and put the dagger in the San Francisco 49ers that gave Kansas City their first championship in 50 years. That recent burst of productivity in the playoffs helped Williams go into 2020 as the starting running back, but Chiefs fans should be worried about him regressing to the mean.

To protect against that eventuality, Kansas City used their first-round pick in the 2020 NFL Draft on LSU running back Clyde Edwards-Helaire, who should mesh well with Andy Reid's offense due to his skill as a pass catcher.

Edwards-Helaire might start off the year as the backup behind playoff hero Williams, but his high ceiling and versatility should push Williams to the bench sooner or later. When that move happens, Kansas City can finally run the ball consistently for the first time since Kareem Hunt was in town.

Edwards-Helaire has the ability to pile up 1,000 yards from scrimmage with his eyes closed in Reid's offense given how slippery he is in the open field, and that immense potential should end up giving him most of the carries late in the year over the veteran Williams.
