The Boston Red Sox continue to seek a trade partner this offseason to take on Mookie Betts before he hits free agency following the 2020 season.

The San Diego Padres are the latest team to show up in relation to the Betts rumor mill, and while no deal is understood to be close, the Padres' deep farm system presents some intriguing scenarios for a possible deal.

The report from The Athletic's Dennis Lin mentions that one discussed package would involve Wil Myers and prospects in exchange for the former AL MVP.

A Betts trade may also have to include David Price if the Red Sox want to cut major salary. He is owed a combined $96 million over the next three seasons, and other teams may just have to deal with that sum in order to acquire Betts. The Padres trading Myers and his $22.5 million annual salary does help lessen the hit from Price.

The Red Sox would have to be enticed to take on Myers' money, and that may mean sending a minimum of two top prospects in the deal. Pitcher MacKenzie Gore and outfielder Taylor Trammell top the Padres system, and may be the starting point in the conversation if Myers is involved.

Assuming Myers is included, a trade that works would see the Red Sox send both Betts and Price to San Diego for Myers, Gore, and Trammell at minimum. A third prospect not at the system would likely be thrown in as well.

With no Myers in the deal, Betts for the two prospects straight up would be more than fair considering Betts can leave after the year in free agency. So, what are you waiting for fellas? Time to talk turkey.
