This Cowboys-Chargers Trade for Desmond King Would Help Dallas Replace Byron Jones in the Secondary

Los Angeles Chargers fans envisioned an almost unfair secondary led by Derwin James, Casey Hayward, Desmond King, and new signing Chris Harris.

Those plans have essentially been dashed now that the Chargers are listening to trade calls for King, as they reportedly have their doubts about two star slot cornerbacks in King and Harris co-existing.

The Dallas Cowboys are in need of some cornerback reinforcements after allowing Byron Jones to take the Miami Dolphins' money and run, and King could be the answer to their woes.

The Cowboys would need to give up their third-round pick to get a deal done. Despite King's All-Pro history and his $2.2 million cap hit, he is a free agent at the end of this season and will likely want to test the open waters given his age and track record.

If this deal goes down, Dallas would get one of the best slot cornerbacks in all of football, while Los Angeles can continue to hoard picks and beef up their offensive line in what isn't a terribly deep class for linemen.

The Cowboys could either spend a good deal of their draft picks on cornerbacks and safeties to make up for the fact that Jones left for the Dolphins, or they could give up a mid-round pick to get one of the best slot corners in the game for pennies on the dollar. The Chargers would he happy to offload him to the NFC too, so this hypothetical deal isn't out of the question at all.
