The Penn State football program risked falling from national prominence after the Jerry Sandusky scandal, and James Franklin can be credited with keeping the program above water, and then some. To reward Franklin for his efforts, he has been given a contract extension that will keep him in Happy Valley until 2025.

Franklin took to Twitter to thank the university, fans and players for their continued support and passion.

Franklin first rose to prominence when he led SEC doormats Vanderbilt to three straight bowl games, including two straight 9-4 records in 2012 and 2013. After two 7-6 seasons to start off his Penn State tenure, Franklin has led the Nittany Lions to three double-digit win seasons in the last four years, with a Big Ten title and two New Year's Six Bowl appearances to his name. Overall, he has gone 55-23 as Penn State head coach.

Franklin, long considered a potential target for Florida State, has put those rumors to bed by re-upping with Penn State.

Franklin's tenure in Penn State has been nothing short of a rousing success, and the Nittany Lions will keep their prized head coach in town for most of the next decade.
