We now know that there was a coordinated attempt and set price offered to take David Ortiz's life.

The head of the Dominican Police has revealed hitmen were offered $400,000 Dominican pesos, or around $8,000 US dollars, to kill Ortiz.

The news comes in wake of reports that the police had arrested a second suspect in connection to the shooting.

The motive behind the payment still remains to be uncovered.

Ortiz was transported to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Monday after he was shot in the back in the Dominican Republic on Sunday.

The lawyer for the first suspect arrested, Eddy Feliz Garcia, says that his client wasn't aware of what was going to happen to Ortiz.

Beloved by fans and adored by his fellow Dominicans, it's still shocking that somebody attempted to take his life.

Nonetheless, Ortiz's family has stated that he remains in good spirits. Red Sox team president Sam Kennedy also revealed Ortiz has expressed his appreciation for the outpouring of support from Red Sox fans.

Hopefully this new information leads the police closer to revealing who was behind the attack.
