The New York Giants were able to escape Tampa Bay with a win over the Buccaneers thanks to rookie QB Daniel Jones' heroics, but they lost their best player in the process.

Star running back Saquon Barkley has been ruled out for "several weeks" after going down with an ankle injury in the third quarter of Sunday's game, reports insider Ian Rapoport.

The entire Giants fanbase held their breath when Barkley took a shot to the leg and came down awkwardly before limping off onto the sidelines. It was a bad sign he had been given a walking boot and crutches immediately after, so this news shouldn't come as a big surprise.

Plus, in another likely throwaway season for the Giants, there's no need to get Barkley back on the field as soon as possible. He's far too essential to the franchise for the long haul.

The big focus is getting Jones ready to be the future quarterback of this time. While Saquon would have been a big help in terms of relieving Jones of pressure, the rookie QB can now really show us what he's made of without his best offensive weapon.
