A contract extension is looming for Philly quarterback Carson Wentz. While locking up your franchise QB is a crucial part of success to any franchise, it will hinder the Eagles' ability to keep some core players in town. Here are three Eagles who might get displaced by this decision.
3. DB Malcolm Jenkins
The former Super Bowl Champion has been with the Eagles since 2014, but that might soon come to an end. With his contract set to expire in 2021 and the possibility of him looking for another multi-year deal due to his stellar play in his latter years, the Eagles might have to bite the bullet and let him walk in order to keep Wentz.
2. DE Derek Barnett
One would hope the front office works to extend him before then, but if Barnett opts to wait it out and test free agency, there's a chance he could price himself out of Philly if the Eagles splurge a lot on Wentz. He'll become a free agent after 2021, and if he rebounds in a big way after an injury-filled campaign, don't expect him to sign a team-friendly deal.
1. OL Brandon Brooks
Brandon Brooks is making $8 million annually, a price that the Eagles may no longer be able to afford by extending their franchise quarterback.
Brooks is a two-time Pro Bowler and certainly a difference maker on the field, but the Eagles will have to decide what's more important: the quarterback position or the depth on their offensive line. When he becomes a free agent in 2021, this will certainly be a big talking point.
