The Kansas City Chiefs were a few plays away from making the Super Bowl last season and that's in spite of their secondary.
This team finished tied for 22nd in passing touchdowns given up and second to last in passing yards allowed. Their struggles are obvious enough but Kennan Allen didn't pass up an opportunity to take a dig at the division rival.
Allen revealed his team looked up the Chiefs defensive backs and couldn't even say more.
Keenan Allen was asked about the Chiefs’ busy offseason with departures and additions. “It was brought up today in the locker room. We just looked at their DB group and I’ll just leave it at that.” pic.twitter.com/IdXRFl7Y9l— Gilbert Manzano (@GManzano24) April 29, 2019
Sometimes, you don't have to say anything to send a message loud and clear.
Allen is no stranger to how weak the Chiefs' secondary was a year ago. He missed the majority of their second contest with an injury but went off for eight catches and 103 yards with a touchdown during Week 1.
The Chiefs may have been miserable a year ago but they've certainly made some adjustments this offseason, most notably with the addition of Tyrann Mathieu. They also brought in Juan Thornhill through the draft who was one of the better ballhawks in college football, but he's also prone to giving up the big play.
.@The_Juan_And_Only tied for 2nd last year in interceptions by a safety with 6. While he has great ball-hawking ability, Thornhill’s occasional busts in coverage and run-pursuit are areas of concern for NFL teams. Allen sent a message with his comments, but we'll see who has the last laugh during the 2019 regular season.
