This morning, Detroit Red Wings fans woke up to a thrill when they realized that a beloved former captain of the team, Steve Yzerman, will be their next general manager. Yzerman was drafted by the Red Wings in 1983 and won three Stanley Cups during his time in Hockeytown.

Over the past couple of years, Yzerman was in the Tampa Bay Lightning front office, helping the franchise rebuild and completely change its culture.
Red Wing fans have dreamt in recent years of Yzerman finally coming back home to Detroit, and they got their wish today. He'll be announced this afternoon in an official press conference, with front office exec Ken Holland staying on as senior VP.
