Social media is a fantastic way for athletes and fans to engage with each other, although sometimes the results aren't pretty.

New York Mets reliever Luis Avilán matched with a fan on the dating app Tinder, and the results could not have been more hilarious. The fan decided to share his profile and their conversation with Twitter, raising the question of whether or not she should "ruin this guys morning".

The fan decided that the best opening line possible was a comment on Avilán's ridiculously high 10.80 ERA here in the outset of the season. His 2.40 WHIP over his 6.2 innings of work in 2019 don't exactly inspire confidence either.

Not many people can say they've had the experience of absolutely roasting a big league reliever on an online dating app.

Avilán, however, found the line funny, so for all of you who think she overstepped, you can settle down.

Maybe being mercilessly trolled is just part of the experience of being a member of the Mets franchise, though the team have gotten off to a solid start this year.

It's important to be able to laugh at yourself every now and then, even when things aren't going too well. We should all learn from Avilán, but in fairness, he should also get to work on chipping away at that gruesome ERA.
