After posting the best numbers of his career, Minnesota wideout Adam Thielen got a much-deserved contract extension. The Vikings locked up their star receiver for four more years at $73.9 million, making his contract six years at $86.5 million in total.
This new deal makes Thielen the sixth-highest-paid receiver in football, and cements his status as one of the best in the game.
Cashflow on Vikings WR Adam Thielen's 4-year, $73.9 million deal (covering the next 6 years at $86.5 million) ...— Albert Breer (@AlbertBreer) April 16, 2019
• $14.31 million this year
• $10 million in 2020
• $11.7 million in 2021
So the Vikings get a star rewarded at $36.01 million over 3. Reasonable.
This deal solidifies the Vikings' wide receiving corps as perhaps the best in the league. They already locked up Stefon Diggs last offseason with a five-year extension. They'll now have the duo of Diggs and Thielen for at least the next four seasons, something Skol Nation is sure to be ecstatic about.
With these two playmakers locked up, all eyes will be on their quarterback, Kirk Cousins, who failed to get his team to the playoffs last season after signing a massive contract to come to Minnesota.
I’ll sleep great tonight knowing Adam is back for the next 6 seasons. Congrats @athielen19, happy for you...see you Monday!— Kirk Cousins (@KirkCousins8) April 12, 2019
Cousins will be happy to have his favorite target back as well. There should be no excuses for the QB and his talented playmakers this season-- it'll be playoffs or bust for the Vikings in 2019.
