The new head of the Anthony Davis negotiations? Well, it's none other than LeBron James' well-respected old GM from his Cleveland days!
David Griffin, whom the Phoenix Suns (or even the Los Angeles Lakers!) certainly should have foisted a large quantity of money upon, will instead head to New Orleans to control basketball operations for a Pelicans team with one monster move to pull off in the months to come, reports Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN.

Griffin is as savvy and well-respected as they come in the NBA, and it's been unclear to most of the observing public why he was even out of a job this long.
Moments later, Woj clarified what he was hearing about Griff's expected title:

Just because the two parties have a previous relationship, this of course does not ensure that Davis will be heading to join LeBron in Los Angeles; after all, Griffin won't let sentimentality get in the way of obtaining the strongest package possible for AD, and that likely doesn't come from the slightly-damaged Lakers.

Griffin spent 2014 to 2017 as Cleveland's GM, orchestrating by far the most successful period for the franchise, even attempting to add Kevin Durant before he exited stage left. Los Angeles certainly should have taken a closer look at this hire as well, but that's all over now. Griff is headed to NoLa.
