Just what the Yankees needed: another injury.
The New York Yankees have placed catcher Gary Sanchez on the 10-day injured list with a left calf strain. As a corresponding move, they have recalled catcher Kyle Higashioka.
The Yankees placed C Gary Sánchez on the 10-day injured list (retroactive to 4/11) with a left calf strain and have recalled C Kyle Higashioka (#66) from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) April 12, 2019
It's yet another blow to a Yankees team that's already missing the likes of Aaron Hicks, Giancarlo Stanton, Miguel Andujar and Didi Gregorius.
The move is especially disappointing considering the hot start Sanchez had gotten off to. After a disappointing 2018 campaign in which he hit below the Mendoza line, Sanchez had already smacked six home runs in 41 at-bats while hitting a respectable .268 through the first two weeks.
Sanchez struggled with calf injuries most of the 2018 season.

Without Sanchez, the Yankees will truly be tested as they attempt to pull themselves out of what has been an extremely mediocre 5-7 start to the year.
The Yankees are absolutely nowhere near full strength. They've been decimated by the injury bug this year and Sanchez is just the latest casualty among a laundry list of quality players that have gone down. Hopefully this terrible luck comes to a merciful end with him.
