What on earth have we just seen?? In a game that saw a barrage of three-pointers, a barrel full of lead changes, and more drama than a BBC miniseries, the Virginia Cavaliers are the last men standing after two thrilling halves and a scintillating overtime.
In barely escaping the Purdue Boilermakers by the skin of their teeth in the NCAA Tournament's Elite 8 by a score of 80-75, Tony Bennett's Wahoos are headed to the Final Four.
The first half was the story of dueling sharpshooters, with Purdue's Carsen Edwards trading triples with UVA's Kyle Guy. For the game, Edwards ending up pouring in an awesome 42 points -- including a 10-19 shooting night from three -- with Guy leading the Cavs with 25.
But like all the best adventures, it's more about the journey than the destination. And boy-oh-boy was the journey something incredible.
Did you happen to see the way this thing ended up going to overtime, by chance?

(No, that didn't actually occur, but it could have. Nothing could be more believable after what Mamadi Diakite did right there as time expired in regulation.)
Edwards just didn't have the magic to pull this thing out come OT, but the Boilermakers deserve massive plaudits for the fight they showed today. There can only be one ticket punched to the Final Four, but sometimes, legends live on long after the clock shows all zeroes. In this case, these fierce competitors from the Big Ten ought to receive a heroes' welcome when they get off the plane back in West Lafayette.
Until then, of course, the night belongs to UVA.
And what a dazzling night it's been.
