Even in retirement, David Ortiz is still the living embodiment of the Red Sox organization. He always stays involved with the team.
His most recent Instagram post hyping up the Sox for the 2019 season is just the latest installment of his never-ending support of the team.
The caption reads: ‘And to RedSox Nation...id like to personally welcome u all to...OPENING DAY!!’ 🤣🤣🤣 Lets go get another one boyss.
Not only did he welcome the fans to the 2019 season, he also tasked this year's iteration of the Sox with the lofty goal of becoming the first team to repeat as champions since the New York Yankees won three in a row from 1998 to 2000.
It won't be easy, though. The Yankees and Astros, Boston's two biggest competitors in the AL, both rounded out their rosters in the offseason following 100-win campaigns.
From how the two played today, they'll definitely have their work cut out for them.
With the core of the offense returning, the race for October glory is shaping up to be every bit as exciting as it was last year.
As the team's de facto cheerleader off the field, Ortiz will be pumping the Sox up every step of the way.
