The Indianapolis Colts are exploring all available options in NFL free agency, even in places they don't necessarily need it, like in their backfield. Yes, despite already sporting up-and-comer Marlon Mack, the Colts are reportedly meeting with former Philadelphia Eagles running back and Super Bowl Champ Jay Ajayi.

According to NFL Insider Adam Schefter, the parties are set to sit down together on Wednesday.

The 25-year-old English-born running back knows the Colts head coach Frank Reich well, as they worked together in Philadelphia during the Eagles’ championship run two seasons ago. Ajayi was traded there midseason from the Dolphins.

Playing under Reich while he was offensive coordinator in Philly, Ajayi complimented the backfield well, rushing for 408 yards in only seven games with Philly, averaging 5.8 yards per carry.

Ajayi has proved that his youth, athletic ability and consistency on the field make him a solid contributor on any NFL offense. He is injury prone, however. The former Boise State Bronco has dealt with various ailments since turning pro, and he is yet to play a full season free of health issues Notably, he is coming off a torn ACL that caused him to miss the remainder of the 2018 season after just four games.

In 2016, Ajayi was selected to the Pro Bowl and was named First-Team All-Pro. His season numbers amounted to 260 carries for 1,272 yards and eight touchdowns, which proved to be his best pro campaign thus far since joining the league in 2015.
