The newest addition to the New York Jets is a big believer in the guy they drafted last year in the first round.
The Le'Veon Bell sweepstakes are now over, as the former Steelers running back is leaving behind Pittsburgh to join the Jets on a four-year deal. Now, the superstar is opening up about his confidence in his new quarterback, Sam Darnold. The USC product got through his first year in the NFL, and Bell says he believes the young player has a great deal of potential and was ultimately one of the reasons he decided to sign with New York.
Bell says he can be Sam Darnold's "security blanket." Says Darnold is a QB with "a high ceiling," saying that potential factored into his decision to sign with the #Jets— Rich Cimini (@RichCimini) March 14, 2019
Darnold's rookie season was a bit of a rollercoaster, as he posted 17 passing touchdowns alongside 15 interceptions. While he showed some signs of promise, he couldn't hide his youth and inexperience.
However, this high praise from Bell certainly has to mean something to Jets fans and give them some confidence in the team's offensive attack going forward. If Darnold can pan out like Bell anticipates, New York could turn into a dangerous team in the AFC that could sneak up on their rivals in time.
Jets gonna win 9+ games next year. They will make the playoffs as a wildcard team.— Dylan (@DotEmDyl_) March 13, 2019
Now, for the first time in a long time, the Jets are beginning to look promising and no longer look like an NFL laughingstock. With Bell and Darnold teaming up on the offensive side of the ball, if the young quarterback can develop into the player he has the potential to be, Gang Green could become a force to be reckoned with.
