After a Jazz fan verbally accosted Thunder superstar Russell Westbrook, which prompted a NFSW verbal diatribe from Westbrook in which he threatened violence, Utah themselves have acted swiftly and disciplined the fan responsible.
The Jazz have banned the fan in question, identified as Shane Keisel, from Vivint Smart Home Arena for life.
Keisel claims that he was the victim of an irritated Westbrook and that he was simply engaging in standard fan banter against an opposing superstar. Given how quickly Keisel was banned by Jazz, his story might not hold up in the eyes of Utah and the NBA.
Keisel's checkered Twitter history, which includes offensive tweets directed specifically at Westbrook, likely didn't help his case with the Jazz or the league.
It's hard (actually borderline impossible) to totally remove fan abuse toward players, given the mindset of some fans.
The best the league and Jazz could have done given the scenario was to swiftly distance themselves from the fan, which they did. They should be commended for how they handled it.
