Despite superstar recruit Justin Fields touching down at Ohio State, Ryan Day isn't handing him the QB1 mantle. Fields and fellow star recruit Matthew Baldwin are set to battle it out well into the summer.

Fields is taking the high road early on, saying that he's just working hard and hoping for a chance to show his stuff as a starter.

“I mean, I didn’t really know what to expect,” Fields said. “Of course, I want to be the starter, but at the end of the day, that’s not my decision. So, I’m just going to come out here and continue to get better.”

Early in the competition, it looks pretty even. Both Fields and Baldwin have live arms and excel at throwing the ball downfield, making it difficult to see a clear cut winner so far. The expectation is that Fields' mobility will ultimately take him over the top.

Based on the rumblings out of Columbus, it doesn't sound like Ohio State is close to naming a starter for the season opener against Florida Atlantic. But don't be surprised if the talented Mr. Fields ends up being the man behind center to open up the Ryan Day era.
