College basketball is in action as the Valparaiso Crusaders will face off against the Loyola Ramblers in the Missouri Valley Tournament Friday at 1:00 p.m. ET.

Valparaiso enters this game at 15-17 overall on the season. The Crusaders have lost six of their last seven games heading into Thursday’s tourney opener. Valparaiso will look to rely on Derrik Smits, who is averaging 12.4 points per game for the Crusaders, along with 5.8 rebounds. He leads the team in both categories. 


As for Loyola, they’re 19-12 overall this season, sitting at 3-1 in their last four outings. Guard Marques Townes is leading the way in scoring for the Ramblers, averaging 15.9 points per game. Sophomore center Cameron Krutwig leads in rebounding, racking up an average of 7.3 boards a game. 

Both teams have something to prove in the Missouri Valley Tournament. Loyola is ranked No. 1 going into the tourney, and will be sure to try and uphold their ranking. Of course, college aficionados and novices alike will remember Sister Jean and last year's shocking Final Four run.

 

The game is set to start at 1:00 p.m. ET on ESPN+ at the Scottrade Center in St. Louis, Missouri. ​ Loyola Chicago is favored by five.
