Michael Jordan just broke another record, and this time, he didn't even have to try.


On Friday, a Michael Jordan trading card broke the record for the most expensive basketball trading card ever sold on eBay. The classic NBA collectable was bought for a whopping $350,100.

The 22-year old piece of sports memorabilia was sold by PWCC, the leading card seller on the market. According to PWCC, only 10 of these cards were ever produced. 


Interestingly, when the seller put up the card for auction, it was listed as "worn," meaning that it wasn't particularly close to mint condition. It's amazing to think then that there could be more of the same card out there in even better condition. Would one of those net a full half-million?

The sale was not only a record for eBay, but also a personal best for Jordan himself. A rare mint condition Jordan rookie card will usually sell for roughly $20,000-$25,000, but thanks to eBay's bidding system, this card was able to easily surpass that mark and make its way all the way to $350,000 thanks to some incredible late action in the closing minutes of the auction.


While it's cool to see something like this happen, it's also a bit disappointing at the same time. Seriously, try not to think about it too much, but that card just sold for more than the vast majority of human beings on earth make in the span of multiple years.
