The Cincinnati Bengals have finally filled their defensive coordinator vacancy. They have officially hired former New York Giants and Miami Dolphins defensive backs coach Lou Anarumo to take on the job.
Anarumo brings seven years of experience coaching NFL secondaries with him. He is also close with new Cincy head coach Zac Taylor, as they worked alongside one another with the Dolphins.
The #Bengals are hiring Lou Anarumo as their defensive coordinator, source said. Longtime respected college and NFL assistant knows new coach Zac Taylor well from their days with the #Dolphins. Now they join forces in Cincy.— Tom Pelissero (@TomPelissero) February 21, 2019
Anarumo filled in at DC in 2015 for the Dolphins on an interim basis when Kevin Coyle was fired; that season, Miami defenders Brent Grimes and Reshad Jones were both selected to the Pro Bowl. His defensive coaching tenure extends further than the Dolphins and Giants, though, as he was the defensive backs coach at Harvard, Marshall, and Purdue between 1995 and 2011 prior to coaching in the pros with the Dolphins. His three decades of total coaching experience will certainly help Taylor guide the Bengals this season.
Guidance is definitely needed in Cincinnati, as they are looking to completely rebuild their franchise after finally turning the page on Marvin Lewis' 16-season tenure.
