The annual buzz about the NHL Trade Deadline is here. It's an exciting time to be a hockey fan, and here's everything you need to know.

When is the NHL Trade Deadline?

On Monday, Feb. 25, all teams must have their trades submitted by 3:00 p.m. ET. However, news about blockbuster trades could break later on in the day.

Top NHL Trade Rumors

Perhaps the biggest name in question this year is Columbus Blue Jackets star forward  Artemi Panarin. The Jackets star has been linked to both the Kings and Blackhawks.

While the Kings need to sell some of their aging core, Panarin could be the young spark that they need to get the ball rolling again. Panarin is a free agent this summer, meaning he could just be a rental for a contender.

Ottawa Senators leading scorers Matt Duchene and Mark Stone are also on the block. Both already have over 50 points on the season, and Duchene has done it in only 47 games.

Be on the lookout for the Boston Bruins to potentially replace  David Pastrnak with one of these Sens stars.

NHL Trade Deadline History

Of course, some massive deals have been made at the deadline that have changed the course of an entire season for certain teams.

A notable deadline move came in 2008 when the Atlanta Thrashers traded forwards Marian Hossa and Pascal Dupuis to the Pittsburgh Penguins in return for Colby Armstrong, Erik Christensen, prospect Angelo Esposito and a first-round draft pick. Hossa went on to score 26 points in the playoffs that year and nearly won the cup with the Penguins.

And who could forget when the Tampa Bay Lightning traded their captain Martin St. Louis to the New York Rangers for Ryan Callahan in 2014? St. Louis scored 15 points in the playoffs for the Rangers and helped lead them to the Stanley Cup Final.

The most heartfelt deal in recent years was when the Philadelphia Flyers traded Kimmo Timonen to the Chicago Blackhawks for two draft picks so that he could have a shot at the Stanley Cup. Timonen almost didn't play during the 2014-15 season because of blood clots and had announced that he would retire after the season was over. The Blackhawks went on to win the cup that year, and Timonen got to go out on top.

This year, there are sure to be some deals made that will shake up the league. We can't wait to see what goes down.
