Jim Duquette caused quite a stir in the baseball world by reporting on a rumor regarding Manny Machado. Duquette, who reported that the Yankees offered Machado a deal worth $220 million, likely at the start of free agency, is now clarifying his comments.

Tweeting out that the report was based only on a rumor he'd heard and not on concrete facts, Duquette walked back his original report in a big way, bringing the Machado discussion back down to earth and calming the frenzy he created.

Thanks for playing, Jim!

Machado continues to hold out from signing with any MLB team for 2019, as both he and fellow big-name free agent Bryce Harper continue to wait for what they believe is the right offer.

However, with only days remaining before pitchers and catchers begin to report, Machado must begin to think seriously about the offers he has on the table to avoid missing any Spring Training time.

Despite this recent news, the White Sox seem to remain the front-runners to nab Machado in free agency. What would certainly be a big splash in Chicago, the team must now work quickly if they want to secure Machado before Spring Training begins or before any other contenders begin to interfere with their plans.
