New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley had a great rookie season in the NFL that earned him respect around the league despite another disappointing campaign by the Giants.

Now the accolades start filing in. The NFL recently named Barkley the 2018 FedEx Ground NFL Player of the Year.

As Art Stapleton noted, Barkley beat out contenders such as Ezekiel Elliott, who led the NFL in rushing yards, and Todd Gurley who is playing in the Super Bowl on Sunday.

Behind a porous offensive line, Barkley still managed to rush for 1,307 yards on an incredible five yards-per-carry to go with 721 receiving yards. Being able to produce numbers like this in the less than ideal situation he was placed in earned Barkley this award.

Giants fans approve of their rookie earning this award and are hoping he'll add to his trophy shelf during the NFL award show at 9 p.m. ET. Tune in to see whether Barkley edges out Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield for the prestigious Rookie of the Year award.
