Major news here regarding the Super Bowl LII halftime performance. As many people on the internet suggested should be done, it appears Spongebob Squarepants' adversary Squidward Tentacles will be making an appearance before the Maroon 5 performance.

This is according to a Facebook post by Squidward's voice actor, Rodger Bumpass. He says that Squidward will be introducing the halftime entertainment, Maroon 5, Travis Scott and Big Boi.

Bumpass' post certainly prompted some major questions about the nature of this guest appearance from Squidward. He didn't give up too much info about what exactly would be happening, but in the comments section he said, "It's a very short piece but what the heck, it's the Super Bowl!!!"

The passing of Spongebob creator Steven Hillenburg and the prolonged absence of a halftime act created the perfect storm for Spongbob rumors. Fans clamored for the animated crew to reenact their infamous episode "Band Geeks," where Squidward puts together a band that performs at halftime of a football game.

Spongebob himself leads the band in their performance of "Sweet Victory", which absolutely slaps. It's undoubtedly going to be a highly anticipated moment for Spongebob fans and NFL fans alike, and regardless of what Squidward's role is, it will make for a touching tribute to Hillenburg's life work.
