Don't give up hope just yet, Yankees fans. Bryce Harper might end up in pinstripes after all.

Considering the Bronx Bombers are content with Luke Voit and Greg Bird at first base and have one of the best outfields in baseball, reeling in superstar free agent Bryce Harper seems like a pipe dream. However, if Gary Sheffield Jr. is to be believed, the Yankees have been trying to get Harper to the Bronx without splurging on a long-term deal.

The strangely-quiet Yankees, according to Sheffield, are still lying in the weeds, waiting to pounce on Harper.

The six-time All-Star and former NL MVP is coming off of a 34 home run, 100 RBI season in 2018. When he signs, be it with the Phillies, Dodgers, Yankees, Nats or whatever team, it is widely speculated that his contract will be the largest ever signed in baseball history.

Despite the Yankees having oodles of cash to spend and some holes in their roster, they have yet to bring in a superstar free agent and have been noticeably coy on signing Harper specifically.

If Sheffield Jr. is being sincere here,  the Yankees could once again flip the baseball world upside down.
