3 Impact Players Oilers Could Acquire With Their First-Round Pick

The Edmonton Oilers are all-in to make the Playoffs in 2019, forcing general manager Peter Chiarelli's hand to make a deal for a winger before it's too late. Chiarelli has already publicized his intent to move a first-round pick or young player for a forward who can help them win right now. With rumors swirling and plenty of names on the trade market, these three names would be massive additions to the Oilers squad.

3. Wayne Simmonds

Wayne Simmonds has already been heavily connected to trade rumors as the Flyers fall down the standings and with his contract expiring following this season. The 30-year-old right winger's best days are behind him, but putting him on Connor McDavid's wing could be enough to revitalize his game. His gritty front-net play and performance as a power play specialist makes him an attractive option for the Oilers. He's scored 15 goals on the season putting him on pace for 26, which would be his sixth straight year tallying 20 or more.

2. Mats Zuccarello

Elliotte Friedman has already connect the Oilers to Zuccarello as a trade piece. The passing specialist has logged seven goals and 14 assists in 33 games this season. He's gone through cold streaks but has heated up recently, scoring seven points in his last five games. On an offensively-challenged Rangers team, he's still managed to find success on the wing and power play. The combination of Zuccarello and McDavid on the top line would be instant offensive threat. Paying a first-round pick may be an overpay for Zucc but we've seen Chiarelli pull off crazier trades before.

1. Gustav Nyquist

The most attractive and expensive option for the Oilers is Gustav Nyquist. The talented winger has re-emerged as a high scoring threat for the Red Wings. This season he's already matched his point total from 2017-18 in 34 less games. His 40 points is second on the Red Wings and he leads his team with 29 assists. The 29-year-old's contract will expire following this season, and Nyquist should be in store for a bit of a raise but the putting him on McDavid's wing would be a match made in heaven.
