The Philadelphia Phillies had a five-hour meeting with Bryce Harper in Las Vegas on Saturday and the results bode well for their chances of signing the 26-year-old outfielder.

According to reports, the meeting was highly successful and the Phillies have now emerged as clear-cut favorite to land the six-time All-Star

According to Bob Nightengale, the Phillies are confident that they will be able to put pen to paper on a contract with Harper. They were one of a few teams financially capable of handling the monstrous contract Harper wants to sign this offseason, and after a long offseason of rumors circulating, it seems that they may be pulling away.

The Phillies have long since expressed their interest in both Manny Machado as well as Harper and have maintained their confidence throughout the entirety of free agency. They were optimistic that they would land one of Machado or Harper and these recent reports suggest they're getting even closer to that goal.

Adding Harper to the mix would elevate the Phillies to potential NL East favorites. Harper slashed .249/.393/.496 in 2018 while crushing 34 home runs and driving in 100 RBI last season and would bring a much-needed top bat in the middle of the Philly lineup.

Whether this is just another rumor in the Bryce Harper drama or the real deal remains to be seen, so stay tuned.
