Veteran catcher Russell Martin is going back to where it all started.
After spending the last four seasons with the Toronto Blue Jays, Russell Martin is returning to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a trade with Toronto, according to Arash Madini of Sportsnet.

More to come...
The return package is unknown at this time, but with Martin owed $20 million in 2019, you can bet there will be some money exchanging hands. Either that or LA will absorb the salary and surrender fewer players in the deal.

Return not yet known, but based on catching market would guess #BlueJays absorb $16-18 million of his $20 million salary in 2019
This is not a foreign maneuver by the Dodgers, as they brought back outfielder Matt Kemp last year in a payroll deal with the Atlanta Braves. Instead of releasing him, Los Angeles kept Kemp and he ended up having an All-Star first half of the season.
We'll have to wait and see if that can happen with Martin, but he's returning to a familiar franchise where he had plenty of success, including two All-Star appearances and a Gold Glove.
In just 90 games for the Blue Jays in 2018, the 35-year-old backstop slashed .194/.338/.325 with 10 home runs and 25 RBI. Obviously the Dodgers are hoping his bat can improve, but we already know he's a tremendous defensive catcher and calls games very well.
