While reports surfaced that New York is out on potentially landing Manny Machado, the Yankees aren't going down without a fight. Per MLB insider Bob Nightengale, the Yanks
The #Yankees’ stance has not changed one iota in Manny Machado talks. They have talked financial concepts with Machado, but have yet to make official offer. Certainly, they have not backed out of Machado sweepstakes with #WhiteSox and #Phillies leading the way.

Machado fever in the Bronx picked up around the end of 2018, when he followed several Yankees players and the YES Network on Instagram. Is this a sign of things to come, or a complete smokescreen?

Cashman and the Yankees have been strangely apprehensive with splashing the cash in the 2019 offseason. It's definitely caught most of baseball offguard.
While we understand New York's desire to build from within, there's nothing stopping them from spending some of their tremendous revenue on a player that will put them in a better position to compete with Boston moving forward. As of now, there's a fairly obvious gap between the Bronx Bombers and the World Series champs.
Machado is going to demand a big contract, perhaps one in the Giancarlo Stanton neighborhood. Now is not the time for Cashman and the Bombers to start penny pinching.
