Somber news for the Los Angeles Chargers moving into an AFC Divisional Playoff matchup with the New England Patriots. Defensive tackle and captain Brandon Mebane's daughter passed away last week, which he announced to the media on Wednesday.

She had dealt with a rare chromosome disorder since birth. Mebane was excused from football duties leading up to the Chargers' game with the Baltimore Ravens to care for his daughter and be with his family, and he'll return for this contest.

The fact that he's returning to practice this week is certainly a positive sign.

The Chargers and Mebane didn't need any more motivation going into their matchup with the Patriots, but playing with this emotional pain will undoubtedly push Mebane and the Chargers to win in her memory.

Going into New England in January is the last thing any NFL team wants to do. Mebane is showing extreme mental and emotional strength by getting back to practice and focusing on taking down Tom Brady

Sunday's pregame will be an emotional one, and hopefully the Chargers give it their all in honor of Mebane's late daughter.
