The New York Yankees have been patient thus far on the free agent market, but things seem to be heating up, as they are reportedly "zeroing" in on superstar free agent Manny Machado.
Machado's brother-in-law, Yonder Alonso, is surely helping the Chicago White Sox lure him to the South Side-- but the Bronx Bombers have a secret weapon as well. According to Mark Feinsand of MLB.com, the Yankees are expected to hire former MLB great Carlos Beltran as a special adviser to general manager Brian Cashman,
According to a source, Carlos Beltran is expected to join the Yankees as a special advisor to GM Brian Cashman. Beltran was repped by Dan Lozano of MVP Sports Group, who also reps Manny Machado. Will be interesting to see if Beltran is part of the Machado recruiting process.— Mark Feinsand (@Feinsand) December 18, 2018
Beltran is one of the more respected guys you'll find in the game, and his agent happens to be Dan Lozano of MVP Sports Group, the same man who represents Machado.
It can't be a coincidence the Yankees brought Beltran aboard if he wasn't going to help in the recruiting process right here, right now.
Carlos Beltran is one of the most respected veterans in the game — You have to believe having him in the room makes a sizeable impact, especially with a Latin-American Star like Machado https://t.co/1P7KWHokpI— Chuck (@_talktochuck_) December 18, 2018
The Yankees are expected to meet with Machado this week, and not only should Beltran be in the room, but former Yankees great and Machado's favorite player growing up, Alex Rodriguez, should also be part of recruiting him to New York.
It's no secret that Machado wants to be a Yankee, thus it might not matter if Beltran is helping recruit him or not. However, it doesn't hurt to have someone of him stature in the room to tell you how great it is to play for the Yankees.
