Wow. This is embarrassing even for the Phoenix Suns, where the standards are lower than the elevation in the desert.
After news broke earlier this evening that the Suns were sending Trevor Ariza to the Wizards as part of a three-team deal that also involved the Grizzlies, a #WojBomb has just been #WojBombed. Due to a ridiculous case of confusion as to which Memphis player named Brooks was actually going to be included in the deal, the reported trade is suddenly dead.
Deal's suddenly in peril. Memphis and Phoenix didn't communicate directly on trade, using Washington as a conduit in coordinating the 3-team deal, sources tell @ZachLowe_NBA and me. Grizzlies believe they were trading MarShon, but somehow Suns believed it was Dillon.— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) December 15, 2018
Aaaaand basketball Twitter is hereby exploding.
Seriously, how incompetent does an organization have to be to not specify whether we were actually talking about MarShon Brooks or Dillon Brooks this whole time?
Everyone fails. It's hard to fathom how many fireable offenses were committed here, presumably by all parties.
Of course, I've got my Brooks' flipped now --- Memphis wouldn't put Dillon in the deal. Grizzlies wanted MarShon in the deal. https://t.co/4ViOgEp7hd— Adrian Wojnarowski (@wojespn) December 15, 2018
Yikes. Woj, you're fired, too.
How is this allowed to happen? This is why we need promotion and relegation in American sports, people! Send these offenders down to the lower divisions! They've officially lost all their NBA privileges.
Unless... the confusion was the plan ALL ALONG...
MY IRRESPONSIBLE CONSPIRACY THEORY IS JAMES JONES PURPOSEFULLY DIDNT CLARIFY WHICH BROOKS TO SCREW UP THE DEAL SO ARIZA CAN STILL GO TO THE LAKERS— ☕netw3rk (@netw3rk) December 15, 2018
The more we know, the less we know.
Say, has anyone checked in with Aaron Brooks lately?
