The Duke basketball machine continues to roll along.

We already know how special this current freshman class is, and it looks the 2019 recruiting is shaping up to be just as impressive. On Thursday, five-star center Vernon Carey Jr. has verbally committed to Duke.

Carey chose Duke over UNC and Michigan State. Kentucky was also in the mix at one point.

The Ft. Lauderdale (Ft.) University School standout is one of the top recruits coming out of high school and he'll be joining a couple other five-star recruits in forward Wendell Moore and guard Rejean Ellis.

"The reason why I chose Duke is Coach K, the recruiting class they are bringing in this year, Wendell Moore and Boogie Ellis and hopefully more guys will come in," he told 247's Evan Daniels.

With Carey joining the fold, Duke's recruiting class is starting to take shape and currently ranks No. 6 overall.

Carey is an athletic big man who has a presence in the post. He's a strong rebounder and has a nice feel around the rim. He's developing an outside shot and can hit 3-pointers from the college line.

He's a decorated high school player and won a gold medal with USA Basketball over the summer.
