The Carolina Panthers are in must-win mode, but that doesn't mean they can't be honest about the spectacular players they'll be lining up against this Sunday.
Carolina is on a three-game losing streak and just lost tight end Greg Olsen for the season. Their playoff chances are on the line this weekend as they travel to Cleveland to face the first overall pick and the Browns.
Head coach Ron Rivera knows exactly the kind of battle he's getting into when it comes to containing Baker Mayfield, as he compared the Cleveland QB to one of the all-time fun players in Jim McMahon.
Panthers’ HC Ron Rivera on his evaluation of QB Baker Mayfield, who will square off Sunday vs Carolina: “I will tell you what. He reminds me a lot – I hope that he appreciates it – of a guy that I played with named (former Bears’ QB) Jim McMahon.”— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 5, 2018
That's high praise from someone who wants to ruin Mayfield's day.
McMahon may not be a Hall of Famer, but he's arguably the best signal caller to ever don a Bears uniform, throwing for over 18,000 yards and 100 touchdowns over the course of his career. Rivera knows exactly how good he is, as he had a pretty fantastic view of McMahon during the five years the two spent as teammates in Chicago.
Mayfield is ready to give Rivera a show in person following the Browns' loss to the red-hot Houston Texans. Of course, McMahon and Mayfield also share a certain cockiness.
Rivera is in for a show and then some, as Mayfield has been as hot as can be
