The Dodgers know they need a big piece to finally help them get past the pesky AL teams that keep denying them of a World Series title. Jose Abreu certainly looks like he could be that piece.

The team has reportedly contacted the White Sox about their All-Star first baseman. While no deal is imminent, the trade would certainly be another blockbuster trade for the NL West.

This isn't the first time a rumor about Abreu getting traded to a contender has surfaced. The Cuban slugger has long been speculated to be on the move, considering Chicago's ongoing rebuild. He is certainly one of their best players, and while dealing him away would hurt at first, it could be a great move for the future.

It's unknown how such a trade would impact the White Sox pursuit of Bryce Harper. Dealing away Abreu could be a signal that they are committing fully to the rebuild, which may deter the All-Star outfielder from wanting to join their organization at the present moment.

After two consecutive defeats in the Fall Classic, Los Angeles may be willing to part with their remaining prospects for a player of Abreu's caliber. He has certainly lived up to expectations since signing with Chicago and has the talent to help put the Dodgers back in the World Series for a third straight year. Whether they will actually land the slugger or not remains to be seen.
