This news was expected, but that doesn't make it any better for the fans in Cincinnati.

Bengals fans were greeted by the return of AJ Green only to have that joy wiped away when he was carted off the field following a non-contact injury Sunday against Denver. Green reaggravated the toe issue that caused him to miss three games, and now it will cost him the last four. He's reportedly set to undergo season-ending surgery.

It's just been that kind of year for the Bengals.

Green will join quarterback Andy Dalton on IR. His injury-plagued 2018 will end with 46 catches for 694 yards and six touchdowns over nine games. Green will be sidelined for four months, but will be back in time for offseason training for 2019.

It's a smart move for Green to just take the rest of the season off. They're likely not going to make the playoffs with only four games left to play and Jeff Driskel lining up behind center.

As soon as Hue Jackson came, everything fell apart.
