This news was expected, but that doesn't make it any better for the fans in Cincinnati.
Bengals fans were greeted by the return of AJ Green only to have that joy wiped away when he was carted off the field
Bengals' WR A.J. Green is expected to undergo season-ending surgery on the torn ligaments in his toe that will sideline him 3-4 months, but he is expected to have a full recovery and be ready for OTAs, per source.— Adam Schefter (@AdamSchefter) December 4, 2018
It's just been that kind of year for the Bengals.
Green will join quarterback Andy Dalton on IR. His injury-plagued 2018 will end with 46 catches for 694 yards and six touchdowns over nine games. Green will be sidelined for four months, but will be back in time for offseason training for 2019.
The #Bengals are placing Pro Bowl WR AJ Green on Injured Reserve after he reaggravated his toe injury in Sunday’s game. @AdamSchefter reported he’s expected to have surgery and Green will have a doctor’s appointment tomorrow morning to make the final determination.— Ian Rapoport (@RapSheet) December 4, 2018
It's a smart move for Green to just take the rest of the season off. They're likely not going to make the playoffs with only four games left to play and Jeff Driskel lining up behind center.
As soon as Hue Jackson came, everything fell apart.
