Against better judgment, the Chicago Cubs somehow decided to bring back infielder Addison Russell.
Despite harsh accusations of both physical and emotional abuse towards his ex-wife and his atrocious performance on the field in 2018, the Cubs decided to tender Russell a contract for the 2019 season.

After receiving the offer, an emotional Russell released this statement of contrition.
In the statement, Russell appears to say all of the right things and looks like he is committed to rehabilitating himself.
This is all well and good, but many out there believe the Cubs still should not have brought him back.

I'm all in favor of giving people second chances, but even though Russell is on the right track, I still think more has to happen before he steps on a Major League diamond again. Sure, he's suspended for the first month of the regular season, but what kind of message does it send when a guy who committed such heinous acts is allowed to say a few words and get right back to work so soon?
Russell has a LONG way to go to earn back the trust of Cubs fans everywhere. He's hoping his statement today helps in that regard, no doubt.
